Hyderabad horror: Sons of AIMIM and TRS leaders accused in gang-rape of 17-year-old

The sons of several politically connected personalities, including MLAs, have been linked to the appalling case of gang rape of a minor reported from Hyderabad in Telangana.

The incident took place on May 28, 2022, in the Jubilee Hills area. The 17-year-old victim was attending a party hosted by two friends at the Amnesia and Insomnia Pub, where the culprits saw her.

As per the complaint registered by the victim’s father, the assaulters took his daughter out of the pub and forced her into a red Mercedes car numbered TS09 FL6460. They were also joined in by some other boys who had reached the crime spot in an Innova bearing a temporary registration number. They abused and assaulted the girl, which led to injuries on her neck.

Based on the complaint given by the victim’s father, a case has been lodged against the five suspects under various sections of the IPC, including Sections 354 and 323. The accused will also be charged under the POCSO Act.

Later, the minor was sent to the counseling center, where a senior lady police official counseled her. During this session, she shared the details of the incident with the official. Following her statement, the police also arranged her medical examination. The officials also added section 376 against the accused for gang rape. The girl has been able to identify and name only one of the accused youths, who is also a minor.

The names of kins of several political leaders have surfaced in this crime, including the son of an AIMIM MLA and that of another leader associated with chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s party Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS). However, the family of the MIM MLA has argued that their son was not inside the car when the crime took place. They affirm that though the minor had visited the club in that car and remained in it for some time, he was not in the car when the crime occurred.

As per The News Minute report, the Telangana BJP has claimed that three of the five criminals involved in the incident of sexual assault are the sons of political leaders. Police have started interrogating the MLA’s son in this case. The son of the chairman of the state’s minority board is also allegedly associated with this crime. The crime was committed in the TRS leader’s car, as per reports.

“There were a lot of allegations in the media on MLA’s son. As per the statement of the victim, CDR analysis, and the CCTV footage, he was not among those 5. We are still investigating for further evidence”, DCP Joel Davis told ANI.

An India Today report has identified two of the accused as Saduddin Malik and Omer khan while the other three are minors. It has come to light that Waqf Board Chairman’s son, who is a juvenile, is involved in the matter. ”A TRS leader and Waqf Board chairman’s son, who is a juvenile, is also involved in the matter. We didn’t get any evidence related to AIMIM MLA’s son and we are trying to get more evidence,” the police added.

Telangana Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson K Krishnasagar Rao accused the Hyderabad police of not taking stringent actions and working under political pressure from the ruling party and Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM that secures the Muslim vote bank. “The BJP is demanding the arrest of five criminals. I am questioning why the Hyderabad police did not arrest them despite the car being seized. In this case, the girl’s parents lodged a complaint on June 1. In addition, all circumstantial evidence is also available. Are the police awaiting permission from CM KCR or AIMIM chief Owaisi?” the BJP spokesperson questioned.

As per a statement given by a police official, CCTV footage shows the son of a leader getting in the car in which the alleged raped was committed. The footage also shows him exiting shortly after. The officer further informed that the police are accessing multiple sources to confirm the facts before proceeding in the case as most of the accused are minors.
