In a distressing continuation of violent incidents, the town of Dhing in Assam has become the latest scene of public outrage following a brutal gang rape. This horrific event follows closely on the heels of similar cases in Kolkata and Badalpur, marking a disturbing trend of violence that has shaken local communities to their core.

On the evening of Thursday in Dhing, Nagaon, a grievous crime was perpetrated against a minor Hindu girl, a Class X student, who was returning home from her tuition classes. Between the hours of 7 and 8 pm, she was reportedly assaulted by three men. The police have relayed that after the assault, the attackers left her unconscious and exposed by the roadside in the Borbheti area. It was nearly an hour later that the minor girl was found by locals, who were appalled by the severity of the scene.

The community's response was immediate and forceful. Residents, horrified by the viciousness of the attack, initiated an indefinite bandh starting Friday, demanding the swift capture and prosecution of all involved. The local police have so far arrested two of the accused in connection with this heinous act, while one suspect remains at large, evading capture.

During a press interaction, State Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed the incident with a stern promise: "The person who committed the heinous crime against the minor girl will not be spared." His words reflect the gravity of the situation and the government's commitment to justice.

A local resident, deeply shaken by the incident, shared their immediate reaction upon discovering the victim, "We were shocked to find her lying there. We quickly informed the police, hoping they would act swiftly.”

Upon the distressing incident in Dhing, law enforcement acted with alacrity, immediately rushing to the scene to aid the victim. They swiftly transported her to the Dhing First Referral Unit (FRU) to receive urgent medical care. Reflecting the grave nature of her injuries, she was later transferred to a hospital in Nagaon for enhanced treatment, underscoring the critical condition she was left in.

The heinous nature of the assault has sparked a profound uproar within the community, leading to widespread demonstrations. Residents and local organizations, profoundly shaken by the brutality of the attack, have poured into the streets. Their protests, fueled by a deep sense of injustice, resonate with a powerful message, labeling the incident a "crime against humanity" and urgently calling for prompt and decisive action against the perpetrators.

In light of the escalating public discontent, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has openly condemned the vile act, emphasizing the state's dedication to securing justice for the victim. He expressed his repulsion and the collective shock of the community through a statement on a micro-blogging website, asserting, "The horrific incident at Dhing, involving a minor Hindu girl, is a crime against humanity and has struck our collective conscience…" This public condemnation reflects his commitment to addressing this grave issue head-on.

Further demonstrating the government's response, Chief Minister Sarma directed the Director General of Police (DGP) of Assam, GP Singh, to make a concerted effort at the site of the crime. He instructed the DGP to ensure that swift and effective measures are implemented to apprehend the remaining suspects and hold all offenders accountable. With an indefinite bandh now in place, the atmosphere in Dhing is charged with tension, with the community's resolve for justice only strengthening.

This recent incident in Dhing is not isolated but part of a series of similar atrocities that have triggered mass protests across the country. The harrowing case involving a 14-year-old minor Hindu girl who was gang-raped by three men on a Thursday evening, has lead to an aggresive outcry and a call for an indefinite bandh by local organizations, starting immediately.

On a distressing Thursday evening, a 10th-grade student experienced a horrifying ordeal while returning from her tuition classes. Between 7 pm and 8 pm, she was savagely attacked by three men. The local police detailed that after brutally gang-raping her, these assailants callously dumped her naked by the roadside in the Borbheti area. It was approximately an hour later that locals discovered her, naked and unconscious, a sight that shook the community to its core.

Reacting with urgency, community members promptly alerted the police, who quickly responded to the grim scene. The officers facilitated the immediate transfer of the victim to the Dhing First Referral Unit (FRU) for urgent medical care. The severity of her condition necessitated a subsequent transfer to the Nagaon Civil Hospital, where she received further medical treatment, highlighting the critical nature of her injuries.

Further investigation by the police revealed chilling details about the assault. According to their reports, the attackers were riding a motorcycle when they noticed the minor girl. They allegedly used a spray to subdue her, tied her mouth, and then subjected her to brutal rape, leading to her loss of consciousness. The attackers then abandoned her near a pond along the roadside, where she was later found by locals without any clothes.

The police have since identified all three attackers involved in this abhorrent crime. One of the assailants has been apprehended, though the police have withheld specific details about the arrested individuals. Media sources, however, have named Tafazzul Islam as the arrested culprit. Additionally, another individual, Sahidul Islam, has been detained for questioning; however, his involvement in the crime remains unconfirmed. Reportedly, all three accused are members of the Muslim community, adding a layer of communal tension to the already volatile situation.

In the wake of the brutal gang rape in Dhing, senior police officials from the district headquarters in Nagaon have been dispatched to oversee the investigation, indicating the high priority the case has received. Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has been actively involved, emphasizing the need for prompt and decisive action. He expressed his outrage over the incident on social media, stating, “The horrific incident at Dhing, involving a minor Hindu girl, is a crime against humanity and has struck our collective conscience.” This tweet underscores the deep emotional impact of the crime on the community and the government's response.

Chief Minister Sarma further emphasized the government's commitment to justice by declaring, “We will NOT SPARE anyone & BRING the perpetrators to JUSTICE. I’ve directed @DGPAssamPolice to visit the site and ensure swift action against such monsters.” This direct command to DGP GP Singh reflects the urgency with which the state wishes to address and rectify the situation, underscoring a zero-tolerance policy towards such heinous acts.

The Chief Minister also highlighted a growing concern about the 'spray gang' menace, which has become increasingly alarming. He assured the public of stringent measures to combat this issue, promising that the government is poised to take robust action against such criminal activities.

Meanwhile, the community's reaction has been one of profound anger and a demand for immediate justice. Thousands of residents have taken to the streets in protest. The local organizations' call for an indefinite bandh has seen a significant response, with many shops in the market area of Dhing remaining closed in solidarity with the victim. This widespread participation in the bandh reflects the community's united stand against violence and their demand for swift and effective action from the authorities.
