Public Outrage at Dhing as Demands for Justice Escalate
In a poignant scene at the lake in Dhing, where the body of Tafazul Islam was recovered, the emotions of the community were palpable. A local woman, present at the recovery site, expressed the collective grief and anger of the town in a moving statement to the press. Her words captured the intensity of the community's reaction to the recent horrifying events involving a minor Hindu girl's assault.
"Today, the rapist who was here, everyone knows that three rapists raped a 14-year-old Hindu girl and left her near this lake. Now she is in the hospital, she is being treated. But the man who was caught by the police, we got the news in the morning that he died. But our question is, how did he die? We want to protest from tomorrow. The women's committee, the women's organization, everyone is protesting. We want the rapist to be handed over to us. We will punish them. The girl who is suffering, she is suffering like lots of pain, lots of pain. We want to punish the rapist in such a way that the whole world remembers him."
Her voice, thick with emotion, continued, underscoring the severity of the crime and the community's demand for a harsher punishment for the perpetrators still at large. "The whole world should always remember the rapist. They should think a thousand times before raping. That raping will lead to such a painful death. We request the police and the Assam government to hand over the two rapists who are still roaming free. If you can't give them such a death, then we will give it. We will give such a death to the women's committee, to the society, so that the whole world remembers him."

The local community's sentiment was clear—they demanded justice, not just through the legal system, but in a manner that would send a resounding message against such heinous acts. "So two have not been caught yet? Two have not been caught yet. One has been caught, who has just died. He died this morning. His dead body was found in this lake. We want to hand over the rapist to us. They don't deserve such an easy death. The girl who is still suffering, her heart is broken, her throat is swollen. She has 12 to 15 stitches in the hospital. She is still hospitalized."
Reflecting on the victim's suffering, the woman’s words resonated with a call for empathy and action. "According to the girl who is in pain, she has died in very little pain. Will you continue the protest? Yes, we will continue the protest. We will continue the protest until the two culprits are caught. We want to hand over the two rapists to us. We want to hand over the two rapists to us. Yesterday, at the place where the protest took place, the local people of Dhing said that whoever the culprit is, the punishment should be severe. But they brought the culprit here this morning with our demands. They brought the culprit here with our demands. We want to tell the local authorities to arrest the two culprits and punish them severely."
This impassioned plea highlights the raw emotions and the determination of the Dhing community to fight for the young victim, ensuring that the tragedy she endured does not go unanswered. The protests are set to continue, echoing a community's cry for justice that cannot be ignored.

In Dhing, Assam, a 10th-grade Hindu girl gang-raped by three Muslim men on a motorcycle, sprayed into submission, and brutally left naked on the street
In the wake of the tragic incident in the Dhing area, where a young Hindu girl suffered a heinous attack, the law enforcement agencies are intensifying their efforts to bring all culprits to justice. The senior police official overseeing the case has confirmed that operations are actively ongoing to apprehend the other two accused individuals involved in this distressing crime.
The incident, which occurred on the evening of August 22, involved the alleged gang rape of a 14-year-old Hindu girl as she was making her way home from tuition classes. The gravity of the event has shaken the local community, prompting residents and various organizations to rally for justice. In response to their outcry, massive protests have erupted throughout the Dhing area, with demonstrators demanding swift and stringent action against all individuals responsible for the crime.
Adding to the law enforcement's response, Assam's Director General of Police, GP Singh, made a significant visit to the crime scene on Friday. Reflecting on the broader implications of such crimes, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his stance unequivocally. "When there is any atrocity against women, we need to take prompt action," stated the Chief Minister.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed the public's growing concern over the handling of crimes against women, particularly in light of the recent horrific incident in Dhing. He emphasized the necessity for immediate and decisive action from the government in such cases. "I would like to say just one thing. When there is any atrocity against women, we need to take prompt action. But the public should see that the government is taking strict action. When people feel that the government is showing laxity, they get angry. When such incidents take place, the government should take very aggressive action. The government in Bengal didn’t do it, so people got angry," Sarma stated, highlighting the need for transparency and assertiveness in governmental responses to prevent public unrest.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister commented on the disturbing trends observed since the Lok Sabha elections this year, noting a rise in criminal activities among specific community groups. He assured the public that the perpetrators, particularly in the distressing case involving a Hindu minor girl in Dhing, would face severe consequences. "The perpetrators of the incident at Dhing, involving a Hindu minor, will be punished," he firmly added, reinforcing the government's commitment to justice.
In a related development, it was reported that locals had found the victim in a semi-conscious state beside a road on the evening of the incident. They acted swiftly to ensure her immediate medical care by transporting her to a hospital. This quick community response underscores the gravity of the situation and the community’s role in aiding law enforcement and emergency services during such critical incidents.
