On Ram Navami 2025, Wajid Shahenshah, a loan shark with ties, tore BJP flags and abused Bhaumik Sokhadiya in Danilimda, Ahmedabad, sparking chaos and fleeing as tensions rose, yet 12 hours on, police haven’t caught him despite evidence

On Sunday, April 7, 2025, while the whole country was filled with joy celebrating the birth of Lord Shri Ram, a troubling event shook the Danilimda area of Ahmedabad. It was supposed to be a day of peace and unity, but a well-known local troublemaker named Wajid Shahenshah had other plans. He stirred up trouble by attacking the calm atmosphere in the neighborhood. Reports say he went around tearing down BJP flags and shouting rude, caste-based insults at Hindu workers who were simply doing their jobs.

This wasn’t just a small disturbance—it quickly grew into something bigger. His actions pulled in a crowd of local Muslims, and suddenly, tensions started rising in an area that was meant to be celebrating togetherness on this special day of Ram Navami. The happiness of the occasion was overshadowed by this unexpected chaos, leaving people shocked and upset.
It just so happened that this day wasn’t only about Ram Navami—it was also the foundation day of the Bharatiya Janata Party, or BJP. To mark this important occasion, the party had planned a workers’ conference for the next day, Monday, at the Swaminarayan Hostel, which is close to the Peer Kamal Masjid in the Danilimda constituency. Local BJP ward president Bhaumik, along with a group of volunteers, was busy getting everything ready. They were peacefully putting up party flags near the venue, a simple task to show their pride and excitement for the upcoming event. Everything seemed to be going smoothly until Wajid Shahenshah showed up out of nowhere and turned a quiet preparation into a messy scene.
The situation took a nasty turn when Shahenshah started ripping down the flags that the workers had carefully set up. He didn’t stop there—he began yelling abuses at them, making the air thick with tension. When Bhaumik and the other volunteers stepped in to stop him, things got even worse. Shahenshah didn’t back down; instead, he reportedly threw caste-based slurs at them and even pushed them physically before running off. It was a bold and disrespectful act that left the workers stunned and angry. Soon, word spread, and people from both communities started gathering around. The atmosphere grew heavy with unease. BJP supporters, furious about what had happened, blocked the road and demanded that Shahenshah be arrested right away. They weren’t going to let this slide. The workers handed over video proof of the incident to the police and pointed out exactly who the culprit was. Police Inspector Rawat stepped in and assured everyone that they would act fast and catch Shahenshah soon.
“He used casteist slurs against me and even insulted PM Modi”: Complainant
The official complaint process kicked off in the early hours, around 3 AM. Bhaumik Sokhadiya, who isn’t just a regular worker but also the BJP ward president, spoke up about what happened. “I was helping set up party flags at the venue for Monday’s event when Wajid Shahenshah showed up and started yelling and tearing down the flags. When we objected, he shoved me and used casteist insults. He also made offensive remarks about our respected Prime Minister Modi,” he said. You could hear the frustration in his voice as he described how a simple job turned into a nightmare. For Bhaumik, this wasn’t just an attack on him—it felt personal, like an insult to everything he and his team stood for. Setting up those flags was about pride and celebration, and Shahenshah’s actions trampled all over that.

“The moment our workers gathered, he fled”: BJP Leader Demands Action Against Notorious Local
Bhaumik wasn’t done sharing his story. He went on to explain how things unfolded after the initial attack. “As soon as our party workers saw how I was being treated and gathered around, Shahenshah ran off. I have filed an official complaint at the Danilimda police station. This individual is notorious in the area, and several complaints have already been filed against him in the past. The police must arrest him and parade him through the same locality, so that people feel safe and maintain trust in law enforcement,” he said. You could tell he was fed up—not just with this incident, but with the fact that Shahenshah seemed to keep getting away with things. Bhaumik and the others wanted justice, and they wanted it to be loud and clear so everyone in the neighborhood could see that troublemakers like this wouldn’t be tolerated anymore. It was about safety, trust, and sending a message.
“The accused is a loan shark involved in several illegal activities”: Locals
People living in the area had a lot to say about Wajid Shahenshah too. One resident, who didn’t want their name shared, opened up about what they’ve seen. “He runs an illegal moneylending business, charging poor people exorbitant interest rates. When they’re unable to repay, he threatens and often assaults them,” they revealed. It painted a picture of a man who didn’t just cause trouble on a whim—he was someone who preyed on the vulnerable, making life harder for those already struggling. The resident didn’t stop there. “Many complaints have already been filed against him at the Danilimda police station. But for some reason, no action is ever taken,” they added, their voice carrying a mix of anger and confusion. Why was this guy still walking around free? When asked what might be holding the police back, the resident didn’t hesitate. “Shahenshah has strong political ties with a local Congress corporator, who also happens to be the Leader of Opposition in the AMC. Police hesitate to act against him, and in the past, he’s even been released on the corporator’s request,” they alleged. It was a serious claim, one that suggested Shahenshah wasn’t just a local bully—he might have powerful friends protecting him.
Over 12 Hours Later, the Accused Remains at Large
Even after more than 12 hours had passed since the incident, Shahenshah was still nowhere to be found. The locals were keeping a close eye on things, and they confirmed that the police hadn’t done anything yet. PI Rawat from the Danilimda police station admitted that they still hadn’t caught the accused. Time was ticking, and people were starting to wonder what was going on. Was this going to be another case where Shahenshah slipped through the cracks? Everyone in the area—especially those who’d been affected by his actions—was watching the police closely. They wanted to know if the authorities would finally step up and take strong action against this repeat offender, or if he’d keep walking free, maybe even feeling bolder because of some political backup. Most of all, they were waiting to see if that public shaming procession Bhaumik had demanded would actually happen. For them, it wasn’t just about catching Shahenshah—it was about restoring their faith in the system and making sure justice wasn’t just a promise, but something they could see with their own eyes.
