"जनता की याददाश्त": In a chilling recall of Kolkata's escalating violence, an unidentified woman’s brutally injured body found in Anandapur following the horrifying RG Kar Hospital rape & murder case, BJP slams Mamata Banerjee for failing to protect women
On Wednesday, 21st August, an alarming incident unfolded on the southern outskirts of Kolkata, where an unidentified woman’s body was discovered behind bushes in a desolate area at Anandapur, according to police reports. The lifeless body was found in the Nonadanga Sabujpalli area, ward 108 under the Anandapur Police Station's jurisdiction. This shocking discovery has sent ripples of fear and concern throughout the local community. The incident occurs amidst the ongoing nationwide outcry over the recent and equally horrifying rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee female doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital.

Early in the morning, the gruesome scene was stumbled upon by locals, who found the bloodied body of the woman lying in the bushes along a road that connects EM Bypass to the China Temple. The body bore multiple injury marks, particularly on the head, indicating a violent and brutal attack. The community members are convinced that the body was dumped at the site after the woman was killed elsewhere. The initial discovery was made by a resident who was out for a morning walk, and it wasn’t long before a crowd of shocked locals began to gather around the scene. Recognizing the severity of the situation, they promptly alerted the local police.
The Anandapur police, upon receiving the information, swiftly arrived at the location. They took immediate action by securing the area, recovering the body, and sending it for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death. Despite their efforts, the identity of the victim remains unknown. Locals, who are deeply unsettled by the incident, noted that the woman did not appear to be from their locality. This observation has led them to suspect that the woman was an outsider, possibly brought to this remote area after her tragic and brutal murder.
This incident, coming on the heels of the recent RG Kar Hospital case, has further intensified the outrage and fear among the public, raising serious concerns about safety and law enforcement in the state.
A resident of the area expressed his concerns, stating, “In all probability, she was an outsider and chances are there that her body had been dumped there. Her body had blood marks and injuries at several places.” This sentiment reflects the widespread belief among the locals that the woman was not from the locality, further fueling suspicions that her body was abandoned in the bushes after she was killed elsewhere.

As reported by ABP News in Bangla, an eyewitness mentioned that when he passed by the area around 5:30 in the morning, there was no body in sight. It was only around 6:00 AM that the locals noticed the lifeless body. This timeline has led to speculation about the exact time of the murder, with many believing that the crime occurred several hours earlier, given the condition of the body. Locals observed that the woman’s body had become stiff, a clear indication that the murder likely took place some time before it was discovered.
Despite the gruesome nature of the scene, certain details suggested that robbery was not the motive behind the crime. The woman’s body was found with a watch and earrings still intact, pointing towards a different motive for the murder. This has left the community puzzled and deeply concerned about the increasing violence in their area.
City police sources have stated that the exact cause of death will only be determined once the post-mortem report is available. An official from the city police confirmed that a thorough investigation has been initiated. The police have started to analyze the footage from all CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity, hoping to gather crucial evidence that could lead to the identification of the perpetrator.
The incident has once again highlighted a longstanding issue within the community. According to local residents, they have repeatedly complained to the authorities about the lack of adequate street lighting in the area. The absence of proper lighting has made the spot a haven for anti-social activities. Shockingly, this is not the first time that a dead body has been discovered in this area. Locals lamented that despite multiple recoveries of dead bodies in the past, the authorities have failed to take any meaningful action to install proper lighting, leaving the area dangerously dark and prone to criminal activities.

Step down or be remembered as the leader who failed women: BJP slams Mamata Banerjee, says ‘Women’s Lives Don’t Matter in West Bengal’
Following the grim discovery of the unidentified woman’s body in Anandpur, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a fierce criticism against the Trinamool Congress and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, focusing on the deteriorating state of women’s safety in West Bengal. The BJP has vehemently demanded the resignation of Mamata Banerjee, arguing that if she does not step down, she will be remembered as the leader who failed to protect the women of her state.
The West Bengal BJP did not hold back in their condemnation, taking to Twitter to voice their outrage. “Mamata, your so-called ‘Safest City’ is drenched in the blood of yet another woman. Brutalised beyond recognition near Anandapur. How much longer will you let women be slaughtered under your reign? Your government is a FAILURE in protecting women. Your empty promises have cost lives. ENOUGH is ENOUGH. Step down or be remembered as the leader who failed women!” This statement underscores the party's frustration and anger over the repeated incidents of violence against women in the state.

Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, Union Minister of State and State President, also expressed his dismay through a tweet. He wrote, “In the ‘Safest City’ created by Didi, another Nirbhaya faces a tragic end. The assault was so brutal that identifying the victim is impossible.” His words draw a parallel between this horrific incident and the infamous Nirbhaya case, highlighting the severity of the crime and the perceived failure of the state government to ensure the safety of women.
BJP MP Debasree Chaudhuri added to the chorus of criticism, directly addressing CM Banerjee with a powerful statement: “Women’s lives don’t matter in Mamata’s West Bengal, Step down or be remembered as the leader who failed to give security to women!” This stark declaration reflects the growing sentiment within the BJP that the current administration has not done enough to protect women, and it emphasizes their demand for a change in leadership.
The BJP’s scathing remarks come at a time when public outrage over the safety of women in West Bengal is at its peak, fueled by this latest tragic incident. The party’s strong stance indicates their intent to hold the state government accountable for what they see as a consistent pattern of neglect towards women’s security.

It is important to highlight that the West Bengal government is already under intense scrutiny for its handling of the rape and murder case of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Hospital, Kolkata, which occurred earlier this month on 9th August. The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with thousands of women, members of the medical community, and ordinary citizens taking to the streets. Their collective demand is clear: Justice for Abhaya and accountability from the West Bengal administration for its initial response to this tragic case.
The controversy surrounding the administration’s actions doesn't end there. Allegations of illegal financial transactions linked to the business of handling dead bodies have also surfaced. Akhtar Ali, the former deputy superintendent of RG Kar Hospital, has brought serious accusations against the ex-principal of the hospital, Sandeep Ghosh. According to Ali, despite attempting to file a formal complaint at Tala police station, accompanied by his lawyer, the police refused to register an FIR. Allegedly, the police said, since the state home department has already constituted an SIT to look into allegations of financial irregularities in RG Kar Medical, now an FIR cannot be filed, only a written complaint is taken. This response has left many questioning the transparency and effectiveness of the investigative process.
The situation has taken a legal turn, as Tarunjyoti Tiwari, the lawyer representing the ex-Deputy Superintendent Akhtar Ali, has announced his intention to take the matter to the High Court. The decision to escalate the case to a higher judicial authority reflects the gravity of the allegations and the dissatisfaction with how the situation is being handled at the local level.
As these issues continue to unfold, they add to the mounting pressure on the West Bengal government, which is facing growing demands for justice, transparency, and accountability in both the tragic case of the trainee doctor and the broader concerns of financial misconduct within one of Kolkata's prominent medical institutions.
