In a bizarre incident, there was a ruckus at Chandigarh University in Mohali, Punjab at 2.30 pm on 17th September when a female student sent nude videos of over 60 female students taking baths in the girls' hostel to a young man. He then uploaded those videos on social media to make them viral. However, the police say that the accused student had made the same video.

Following the information of leaked videos reached the students, eight of them tried to commit suicide. Reports suggest one of the female students whose video was leaked has died and one other is in a critical state. However, the Police denied the reports of death so far.

On the complaint of hostel manager Ritu Ranaut, the police have registered a case against the girl student and her male friend. The youth is a resident of Shimla and his name is Sunny. Police are going to Shimla to arrest the youth.

It was told that after coming to know about the matter, eight girl students living in the hostel attempted suicide. However, the police have denied the possibility of suicide. The accused student has been taken into custody in the case. On the other hand, the DPRO of Chandigarh University has denied any student attempt to commit suicide. The SSP has told that the accused has been arrested.

SSP Mohali Vivek Soni said, "There were a few bits of gossip that various recordings were made by the denounced. We are examining the matter. There are no reports of any demise up until this point. I might want to encourage everybody not to spread tales." When getting some information about the spilled recordings via social media platforms, SSP said the Police are gathering proof, and he would brief the media once he has more data regarding this situation.

A case has been registered against the accused girl under Sections 354C of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of the IT Act at the Gharuan Police station. The Police said in a statement that the accused is a first-year MBA student at the University.

It is being told that the student was making videos of other girl students taking baths for a long time and was sending them to youth from Shimla. The young man put this video on the internet media. She was stunned when the girl students saw her video on the internet media.

Following the reports of massive protests, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains urged the protesting students to maintain law and order.

He tweeted, “I humbly request all the students of Chandigarh University to remain calm, no one guilty will be spared. It’s a very sensitive matter & relates to dignity of our sisters & daughters. We all including media should be very very cautious,it is also test of ours now as a society.”

Female students learned about the leaked videos

Eight girl students attempted suicide after the video went viral on internet media. The girl students have been taken to different hospitals. At the same time, the Chandigarh University management is pressurizing the students to press the matter. The girl students say that they complained about this to the college management, but the college management did not take any action in the matter.

Furious students surrounded Chandigarh University late on Saturday night and started shouting slogans of 'We for Justice'. It is being told that the girl who made the video has been kept locked in a room of the hostel so that she does not get attacked.

As the students were agitated, the authorities called the Police. Reportedly students got irked when the Police tried to disperse the crowd and overturned PCR vans. The Police had to use lathi-charge to disperse the crowd.

The commotion increased so much that the security guard closed the main gate, while the police force has been called to the spot. The enraged students also overturned PCR vehicles and the police had to lathi-charge. The police administration is also not saying anything as the matter is big.

The girl students say that they had complained about the matter to the management, but the management remained silent in the matter. He refused to reveal anything about the matter to anyone. When the girl students attempted suicide last night, there was a stir in the management.

Hundreds of students came out on the campus on Saturday night after talks with the authorities apparently failed. Several social media posts are doing the rounds claiming that the university authorities were trying to cover up the incident.

A video of the girl who made the videos and leaked them is also going viral where she confessed her crime. Some insiders claimed the accused was demanding money from the girls.

Chandigarh University is a private University located in Mohali. It is not the Central Government-funded Panjab University that is located in Chandigarh.

#Chandigarhuniversity and #justiceforCUgirls trends on Twitter

Hash tags “#Chandigarhuniversity” and “#justiceforCUgirls” are trending on social media following the reports of the alleged Chandigarh University MMS Video leak.

This comes after massive protests were held by Chandigarh University students in Mohali on Saturday night after alleged ‘leaked objectionable videos’ of women students went viral.

Soon after the reports, videos of protesting students as well as a video of the accused girl has gone viral on social media.

Following this, several political leaders and social media users started tweeting in favor of the other students.

AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday tweeted that the culprits would get the 'harshest punishment'.

"In Chandigarh University, a girl recorded objectionable videos of many girl students. This is very serious and shameful. All the culprits involved in this will get the harshest punishment. Victim girls have courage. We are all with you. All act with patience," he tweeted.

Union Minister and BJP leader Som Parkash also demanded strict action against the culprits. "It is an unfortunate incident. Police should take serious action against those involved in this incident so that such incidents do not occur again," the BJP leader said.
