"Teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops": Public uproar in Pune DY Patil High School as Principal Alexander secretly installs CCTV in girls' restroom, forces Christian prayers and disrespects Hindu customs, faces suspension
On an ordinary Thursday, July 6, the atmosphere at DY Patil High School located in Pune's Ambi region was anything but usual. It was a day that marked the sudden expulsion of the school's Principal, Alexander Coates Reid, along with several Christian teachers. The reason for this abrupt dismissal wasn't a simple matter of administrative changes but a chilling case of alleged molestation, forced religious conversion, and the disrespect of Hindu traditions.
|
In an outrageous violation of privacy, it was discovered that Reid had clandestinely installed CCTV cameras in the girls' washroom. This shocking act, committed without the knowledge or consent of the school management or the students' parents, ignited a furor among local Hindu organizations. They took matters into their own hands, responding with anger and confrontation, leading to Reid being physically accosted.
The incident swiftly caught fire on social media, and a video of the principal being pursued and assaulted by these local Hindu organizations began circulating widely. The disturbing footage shows the leader of a respected educational institution under physical attack, a sight that has prompted anger and disbelief among viewers.
However, the incident's narrative has been manipulated by certain factions, particularly Islamists and members of the left-liberal cabal. They have seized this opportunity to further their own agendas, asserting that this attack represents a deliberate effort by Hindus to harm the Christian minority community in India. They also allege that Reid's assault was primarily triggered by him conducting Christian prayers at the school.
This perspective, however, only presents a skewed and partial version of the truth. While it's true that Reid was conducting Christian prayers, this alone does not account for the fury that led to his attack. It crucially overlooks the grave accusations levelled against him, notably the invasive installation of CCTV cameras in the girls' washrooms and the alleged instances of molestation. These significant details offer a broader and more disturbing context to the incident, emphasizing that the anger and shock felt by the local community extends far beyond religious differences.
Certain Islamist and leftist groups have conveniently overlooked some crucial details while presenting their side of the story. They have failed to mention, or perhaps deliberately ignored, that the Principal, now suspended as confirmed to OpIndia by members of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), had installed CCTV cameras in the bathrooms of the female students from 8th grade onwards. Furthermore, these groups also neglected to report the unsettling incident where the Principal was found engaging in inappropriate behavior with a woman, who is a parent to one of the students, on school grounds.
As we delve deeper into this shocking series of events, the stories that emerge paint a horrifying picture of religious discrimination and a severe invasion of privacy.
The news outlet OpIndia carried out an independent investigation to confirm the allegations, liaising closely with members of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), a prominent local Hindu organization. Santosh Dabhade, a VHP member involved in the matter, narrated the harrowing experiences of a distressed family whose daughter attended the school.
The family reported that their daughter was not just being mistreated and tormented in school but also targeted for her religious beliefs. She was singled out for grueling tasks like lifting heavy school benches, an act clearly intended to humiliate her. In addition to this distressing physical exertion, the child was subjected to pinching on her cheeks and other body parts, a clear violation of her dignity.
The local Hindu organizations decided to intervene, and members, including Dabhade, visited the school to investigate the claims. But nothing could have prepared them for the shocking revelations that awaited them.
During their visit, they discovered the horrifying breach of privacy—CCTV cameras installed in the washrooms used by the older girl students. The school had not notified the parents or students about this intrusive step, leading to an understandable surge of fury among the parents.
But the scandal didn't end there. It was found that the school was aggressively promoting Christian practices and rituals while belittling and insulting Hindu traditions. Students were being compelled to read prayers from the Bible during the school assembly, irrespective of their own religious beliefs. Hindu festivals, integral to the cultural identities of many students, were demeaned and insulted, adding a layer of religious discrimination to the already grave situation.
This heart-wrenching revelation sent shockwaves through the community, further fueling their anger and determination to seek justice.
it becomes apparent that this is not merely an incident of personal misconduct, but a complex issue mired in religious disrespect, personal invasion, and outright disregard for human dignity.
Santosh Dabhade, the local VHP member, further recounts that the school brazenly disrespected significant Hindu holidays such as Ashadhi Ekadashi and Gudhi Padwa. Students' requests to celebrate these holidays, as well as organize traditional ceremonies such as the Palkhi procession, were not only denied but met with derision, with the school authorities labeling these traditions as 'stupid.' The majority of the school's student body being Hindu, Dabhade finds himself wondering, "Why is there such a stark imbalance in religious representation?"
Amid this growing tension, an alarming event occurred when the school's principal attempted to molest a female parent who had approached him with concerns about the school's practices. The public outcry against his reprehensible behavior was immediate and severe, with many taking matters into their own hands.
The cloud of controversy doesn't seem to dissipate there. It is alleged that some teachers, including a Muslim teacher named Samina Patel, have been coercing Hindu students into adopting foreign religions. Patel is accused of glorifying Islam while consistently belittling and berating the Hindu majority. This act of religious manipulation has been met with a strong reaction from the community.
In response to these shocking revelations, three teachers, including Patel, have been suspended pending further investigation, as confirmed by VHP members to OpIndia. The school management, when approached for comments, preferred to remain silent, stating only that they are examining the issue and will release an official statement soon.
In an attempt to salvage their tarnished reputation, the school management, during a meeting on July 6, assured swift action against those responsible and expressed their unawareness about the CCTV cameras installed in the girls' washrooms. They pledged that such invasions of privacy would not be tolerated, and those found guilty will be dealt with sternly.
Parents have also voiced their distress over the overt Christian bias in the school's approach to religious education. One of the parents told OpIndia that the school ridiculed a popular Hindu prayer when it was played during an event and outrightly refused to allow it in the future. They also lamented the fact that students were discouraged from visiting temples for a project about religious places, adding further evidence to the school's anti-Hindu stance.
Deepening the wound, the school principal, already under severe scrutiny, is accused of disrespecting India's national anthem, disregarding it during school events, and creating an atmosphere that disallowed speeches in local languages like Hindi and Marathi. This blatant disregard for cultural respect and diversity is leaving parents with a profound sense of outrage and worry, particularly about what might have been captured on the secretly installed CCTV cameras.
While the parents wait anxiously for an FIR to be registered on their police complaint, the school management has assured them of strict action against the principal and implicated teachers. Despite the severe public backlash, OpIndia's attempts to get comments from the police have been met with silence, and as investigations continue, everyone awaits further updates on this deeply unsettling matter.

Precautions for Students and Parents
Given the shocking incidents detailed in this article, it's clear that both students and parents need to take certain precautions to ensure safety and respect for personal beliefs in a school environment. Here are some detailed steps and advice:
Open Communication: Parents should regularly communicate with their children about their day-to-day experiences at school. Encourage your child to share any discomfort or unease they might be feeling. This will help to detect any potential issues at an early stage.
Understand the School's Policies: Parents and students should familiarize themselves with the school's policies regarding privacy, religion, and student welfare. This will help identify any potential breaches or inappropriate actions.
Respect for Diversity: Ensure that the school respects all religious and cultural traditions equally and does not show any bias towards a particular religion or community. Schools should create an environment of inclusivity and respect for all cultures and religions.
Awareness of Privacy Rights: Students should be made aware of their rights to privacy. This includes privacy in restrooms and locker rooms. If any CCTV cameras or other surveillance equipment are installed in private areas, it should be brought to the attention of the school management and, if necessary, law enforcement.
Reporting Inappropriate Behavior: If any school staff member, including the principal or teachers, displays inappropriate behavior, it should be reported immediately. Encourage your child to share such incidents with you or a trusted adult.
School Assemblies and Prayers: If a school conducts religious prayers, it should be done respecting the religious beliefs of all students. Parents have the right to inquire and object if they feel their child's religious beliefs are not being respected.
Maintain a Supportive Network: Connect with other parents and form a supportive network. This will enable you to share information and collaborate when addressing issues with the school management.
Raise Concerns with School Management: If any issue arises, address it with the school management. If the response is not satisfactory, consider escalating it to the school board, or even the education department if necessary.
Monitor Online Presence: With the rise of digital technology in education, ensure that your child's online interactions and activities are safe. Be aware of their digital footprint and set ground rules for online safety.
Legal Action: If the school or any of its staff members are found breaching rules or laws, don't hesitate to take legal action. Consult with a lawyer to understand your options better.
The safety and welfare of students should always be a school's top priority. As a parent, it's essential to be vigilant and proactive in ensuring your child's safety and well-being in their educational environment.
