In a harrowing event that has shaken the community in Jogapur's Kanshiram Colony, located in the Nagar Kotwali jurisdiction of Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district, a grave crime was committed that highlights ongoing social tensions. On the afternoon of Tuesday, 4th June, a distressing murder unfolded when a man, identified as Qadir Musalman, brazenly entered a Dalit family's residence and brutally stabbed a young woman to death.

According to detailed police reports and witness accounts, Qadir had been a regular visitor at the victim's home and had allegedly been harassing her persistently. The background of the conflict appears rooted in a complicated love triangle, though specifics of this motive are still being scrutinized by authorities. Following the tragic incident, law enforcement quickly responded by registering an FIR and commencing a thorough investigation to apprehend the suspect who is currently on the run.

The scene of the crime, Kotwali City police station's area, has become a center of police activity as they attempt to piece together the events leading up to the murder. The victim, whose identity has been disclosed by her grieving father in his statement to the police, resided with her family in the Kanshiram Colony. Her father, Nandiram, who moved from Chitrakoot to Pratapgarh nearly two decades ago, revealed that he has two daughters. His elder daughter, named Jyoti, was previously married and lived in Chhatarpur district, Madhya Pradesh. However, following her separation from her husband four years ago, she returned to live with her father and young son in Jogapur.

Local gossip suggests that Qadir, a young man whose origins trace back to Meerut but who had been living in Pratapgarh on a rental basis, was often seen in the company of Jyoti. He is known in the community for his work at local hotels where he specialized in making traditional breads like naan and tandoori roti.

Nandiram provided the police with a harrowing account of the events leading up to the tragic day. He reported that Qadir Musalman, a frequent visitor to their home over the past one to two years, had escalated his interactions from mere visits to outright harassment of his daughter, Jyoti. This ongoing harassment had previously been brought to the attention of the local police outpost, indicating a troubling pattern that had been noted but not curbed.

On the fateful day of Tuesday, when the brutal attack occurred, Nandiram was not present at home. He recounted that at approximately 3:30 p.m., while he was away, Qadir arrived at their residence. At that time, Jyoti was at home with her younger sister, Pushpa. The situation rapidly deteriorated when Qadir began to verbally assault Jyoti, using deeply offensive casteist slurs that pierced the tranquility of their home. His verbal abuse quickly turned violent as he brandished a knife and launched a physical attack on Jyoti.

According to the distraught testimony provided by Pushpa, who witnessed the horrific scene, Qadir had cornered Jyoti near the doorway of a room on the first floor of their house. He savagely attacked her, stabbing her multiple times in the stomach and chest. Pushpa’s attempts to intervene were futile; by the time she reached Jyoti, her sister had already suffered multiple stab wounds. Pushpa's presence and her subsequent screams of horror seemed to startle Qadir, prompting him to flee the scene, still armed with the knife.

In the immediate aftermath, Pushpa, overwhelmed with fear and shock, called their father to inform him of the dire situation. Simultaneously, she desperately sought help from their neighbors, hoping someone would assist her in rushing Jyoti to the hospital. Tragically, their pleas for help were met with inaction; no one from the colony came forward to aid them. By the time Nandiram returned home, his daughter had succumbed to her injuries, leaving the family and the community reeling from the brutal loss.

Upon receiving the distressing news, the police force swiftly arrived at Nandiram's residence, where they were met with a scene of utter chaos. Tragically, by the time of their arrival, Jyoti had already succumbed to her injuries. Her body, drenched in blood, lay on the floor—a stark and heart-wrenching sight. Immediately, Nandiram briefed the officers on the horrific events, prompting them to take charge of the situation. The police promptly secured Jyoti’s body and initiated the necessary legal procedures, sending it for a post-mortem to ascertain the exact cause of death.

In the meantime, the perpetrator, Qadir Musalman, had vanished from the scene, prompting an intense manhunt. Originally from Meerut, Qadir's whereabouts became the focus of a significant police operation. Several dedicated teams were assembled to track him down, indicating the serious nature of the crime. Law enforcement officials, including Chowki In-charge Ankit Srivastava, Nagar Kotwal Anandpal, and CO City Shivnarayan Sahu, alongside the SWAT team, converged on the scene.

These officials and their teams began a meticulous search for Qadir, employing all available resources including CCTV footage from the colony and surrounding areas. The last known sighting of Qadir was as he fled towards Kusmi Crossing, adding a crucial lead to the ongoing investigation.

Further details emerged about Jyoti’s personal life which added layers to the tragedy. Media outlets reported that the motive behind Jyoti’s murder might have been a love triangle, noting that she had separated from her husband four years prior. Her estranged husband, Jogendra, who currently resides in Delhi and works as an auto-rickshaw driver, was not present during the incident.

In the course of the investigation, the police collected various pieces of evidence from the crime scene, including Jyoti’s mobile phone, which could provide further insights into her relationship with Qadir. CO City Shivnarayan Sahu confirmed that Jyoti and Qadir were known to each other and had been in contact, which might have contributed to the events leading to the tragic outcome.

In response to the severity of the crime, Qadir has been charged under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for murder, along with provisions of the SC/ST Act, reflecting the caste-related aspects of the abuse Jyoti faced.

Appealed to the Police Four Times, Yet the Murder Happened

In the quiet town of Pratapgarh, a harrowing narrative continues to unfold, revealing a series of distressing interactions between the victim, Jyoti, and the accused, Qadir, leading up to her brutal murder. According to Pushpa, Jyoti's sister, a significant confrontation occurred approximately an hour before the tragic incident. Around 1 PM on that fateful day, Jyoti had left her house to purchase some items and encountered Qadir near the gate of Modern Science Inter College. The encounter quickly escalated as their conversation turned violent, with Qadir assaulting Jyoti in broad daylight.

Frightened and hurt, Jyoti reached out to the police and informed her sister about the assault. In response, PRV police officers arrived at the scene to investigate. After briefly questioning Jyoti about the altercation, they began a search for Qadir. However, their efforts were abruptly halted as they advised Jyoti to "Go to the police station and submit an application." This advice came with no further action; the officers did not report the incident to either the local outpost or the police station. Mere hours after the police left, a devastating turn of events occurred: Qadir returned and fatally stabbed Jyoti at her home, leaving a trail of blood from the room to the gate.

The repeated failure of the police to respond effectively to the threats against Jyoti is a central element of this tragic story. Nandiram, Jyoti's father, expressed his profound despair and frustration. Through tears, he recounted how the family had reported Qadir's threatening behavior to the police on four separate occasions within the past month. Each time, they hoped for some measure of protection or at least a deterrent against the escalating threats. Sadly, their pleas were met with inaction, which only served to embolden Qadir further.

On the morning of the murder, Qadir's brazenness reached new heights as he approached Nandiram's home and verbally abused Jyoti right at her doorstep. The nature of the dispute between Jyoti and Qadir remains unclear, shrouded in rumors ranging from a personal affair to a complicated love triangle. Yet, the fear and the stigma associated with such situations left neighbors and onlookers unwilling to discuss the matter openly.

Pratapgarh News: Police Fail to Capture Woman’s Murderer on Second Day, Family Outraged

In the wake of a brutal murder that has shaken the community of Kanshiram Colony in Jogapur, Pratapgarh, the local authorities are under intense scrutiny for their handling of the case. CO City Shiv Narayan Vaish succinctly summed up the grim situation: "A woman has been murdered. The accused is on the run, and his location is being traced. The family cannot explain the reason behind the incident." This statement underscores the ongoing struggle to apprehend the accused and the confusion surrounding the motives of the crime.

The inability of the police to capture Qadir, the accused in the murder of Jyoti, has sparked significant outrage within her family and the broader community. On Wednesday, in a dramatic expression of grief and frustration, Jyoti's family attempted to block the road in Pura Keshvarai as a form of protest. They vehemently accused the police of negligence, highlighting a perceived lack of urgency and effectiveness in the investigation. This public demonstration reflects the deep anguish and desperation felt by the family, exacerbated by the police's failure to secure justice promptly.

Jyoti, the daughter of Nandilal from Jogapur's Kanshiram Colony, tragically lost her life on Tuesday afternoon. She was reportedly stabbed to death in what has been described as a horrifying assault. In response, her father lodged a formal complaint, prompting the police to register a case against Qadir. Despite extensive efforts, including searches at various possible hideouts, the authorities have been unable to locate Qadir, leading to mounting frustration among Jyoti's loved ones and community members.

The situation escalated during the post-mortem on Wednesday, when Jyoti’s husband, Jogendra, who traveled from Delhi, openly confronted the authorities. Amidst his profound grief, Jogendra created a commotion at the hospital, accusing the police of negligence not only in the immediate response but also in handling previous incidents. He revealed that Qadir had attacked his wife four months prior, suggesting a disturbing pattern of violence that had not been adequately addressed by the police.

Jogendra, Jyoti's husband, has openly criticized the police for their handling of the initial assault on his wife that occurred on Tuesday. He alleged that although the police were present after the assault, they failed to take any meaningful action, a negligence he believes directly contributed to his wife's subsequent murder.

This claim added fuel to an already volatile situation. In response to the growing uproar, Nagar Kotwal Anand Pal and CO City Shivnarayan Sahu arrived at the scene in an attempt to pacify the aggrieved family. However, their efforts were met with resistance as the family was inconsolable and fiercely critical of the police response. The family voiced their frustration, accusing the police of not only failing to protect Jyoti but also of manipulating the complaint to fit their narrative, while the accused remained free.

Amidst these intense emotions, the family attempted to block the road outside the mortuary as a form of protest. This act of civil disobedience aimed to draw attention to their plight and the perceived injustice they were suffering. The police, however, managed to prevent the blockade from taking place, maintaining order but not addressing the underlying issues of trust and accountability.

The situation reached a temporary resolution when VHP leader Manoj Mishra intervened. After discussions with both the police and the family, he managed to mediate a temporary calm. His involvement suggests the depth of community impact this case has had and highlights the need for effective communication and action from local authorities.

The police, for their part, expressed a sense of relief following the performance of Jyoti’s last rites at the Sai River ghat near Belha Devi, perhaps marking a moment of peace in the midst of ongoing turmoil. Nagar Kotwal Anand Pal reiterated their commitment to the ongoing search for the accused, emphasizing that the effort to bring Qadir to justice remains a priority.
