In a shocking series of events in Darbhanga, Bihar, a procession carrying the idol of Maa Saraswati for immersion became the target of violence. Reports state that as the Hindu devotees were on their way to immerse the idol at the scheduled time of 5 pm on Thursday, 15th February, they were ambushed. A mob, identified as Islamic fundamentalists, forcibly stopped the procession. The confrontation escalated quickly as the mob resorted to stone pelting, causing injuries to many in the procession. The attack didn't stop at just physical violence; the mob went on to destroy the idol of Maa Saraswati, a revered figure in Hinduism, marking a blatant act of religious desecration.

The violence took a more horrifying turn with reports surfacing of acid attacks in addition to the stone pelting. This barbaric act was not just directed at the Hindu participants of the procession but also affected law enforcement officials who arrived at the scene. Injuries were widespread among those caught in the violence, highlighting the severity and the indiscriminate nature of the attacks. The situation necessitated a significant police response, with high-ranking officers like the District Magistrate (DM) and the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) deploying forces to the area. Their timely intervention helped quell the chaos and restore some semblance of order.

The aftermath of the incident brought to light the organized nature of the attack. An FIR was lodged against over 200 individuals, with 14 arrests made, including notable names such as Faizan and Tabrez. This development hints at a premeditated attack by groups holding extremist views, with the ‘Islam Zindabad’ group being primarily accused.

In the small locality of Muria, near the Bhalpatti OP police station, a distressing episode of communal violence unfolded. Extremists, reportedly hailing from Butcher Mohalla in the Hatgachi area, launched an unprovoked attack on Hindu community members. The attack involved individuals identified by names such as Faizan, Mahtab Alam, Abdul Barik, Mohammad Abdullah, and Amjad, who were part of a larger mob. This mob, driven by malicious intent, targeted Hindus in a display of unwarranted aggression.

OpIndia, a news platform, has managed to obtain a copy of the First Information Report (FIR) filed in relation to this incident. The FIR sheds light on the premeditated nature of the attack, revealing a sinister conspiracy orchestrated by the attackers. The document meticulously details the planning and execution of the violence, pointing towards a deliberate attempt to instigate communal unrest.

In response to these grave events, law enforcement authorities have acted swiftly. To date, 14 individuals involved in the riots have been apprehended. These arrests are a testament to the police's commitment to restoring peace and order in the area. Moreover, the police are continuing their efforts to identify and capture other participants in the violence. This ongoing pursuit sends a clear message: such acts of fanaticism and communal hostility will not be tolerated, and those responsible will be held accountable. Through diligent investigation and legal action, the authorities are working tirelessly to ensure justice for the victims and prevent the recurrence of such incidents.

Planned Attack Through WhatsApp Group? Insights from the Darbhanga Incident

In a detailed investigation into the violent incidents in Darbhanga, Bihar, where Hindu processions were attacked, new evidence has emerged pointing to a meticulously planned assault. On February 15, 2024, devotees participating in a procession for the immersion of Maa Saraswati idols from Tali Gumti and Muria areas faced unexpected violence. The procession, which was moving peacefully towards Jeevach Ghat from Hatgachi, was abruptly stopped by a group identified as Islamic fundamentalists at around 5 pm in Hatgachi. The attackers launched a coordinated stone-pelting assault on the procession participants, leading to injuries and chaos.

This violent outbreak prompted a swift response from law enforcement, with senior officials arriving swiftly to manage and defuse the situation. The intervention led to several detentions, including an individual named Mohammad Faizan. The investigation took a significant turn when Faizan's WhatsApp details were scrutinized, revealing a recently formed group titled ‘Islam Zindabad’. This group, featuring seven administrators, became a focal point of the police investigation. A closer look at the group's activities unveiled that the attack had been pre-planned, showcasing the role of digital platforms in orchestrating communal violence.

The police have since taken decisive action, registering a case against 61 identified individuals and the administrators linked to the incriminating WhatsApp group, alongside 150 unidentified participants. The charges laid against them cover a wide array of offenses, including obstruction, stone pelting, incitement of communal riots, and assault on police personnel, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). These sections encompass crimes ranging from rioting and wrongful restraint to grievous hurt, attempt to murder, and acts intended to outrage religious feelings.

The seriousness of the charges reflects the gravity of the incident and the intent behind it. With the investigation now under the stewardship of Dhruv Kumar Chaudhary, the law enforcement's approach indicates a rigorous pursuit of justice.

The conflict escalated when, at around 5 pm, a group of individuals, identified as Islamic extremists, aggressively blocked the path meant for the idol's immersion at Kasai Tola, a location already contentious due to the earlier obstruction of two tractors. The sudden appearance of this group and their subsequent stone-pelting caused immediate panic among the procession participants, leading to a chaotic dispersal away from the idol. This act of violence not only resulted in physical harm to those present but also saw the destruction of the Saraswati idol, further fueling the anger and distress among the crowd. In the chaos that ensued, several homes and shops in the vicinity were subjected to vandalism, exacerbating the tension and fear within the community.

Prince Kumar Yadav, an officer stationed at the Bhalpatti police post, provided insights into the incident. He clarified that the unrest was sparked by a deviation in the procession's intended route, leading it through the Kasai locality, a move that unexpectedly triggered the outbreak of stone pelting. Addressing speculations about the procession's proximity to a mosque at the time of the attack, Yadav categorically denied such claims, stating that the violence occurred before the procession could reach near any mosque.
