Maharashtra: School ‘dropout’ Shoaib Shaikh kills Sikh girlfriend, who was manager at a private bank, after 3 months of relationship

In a shocking incident in Maharashtra, a 35-year-old woman, serving as a manager at the Juinagar branch of a private bank, was tragically murdered by a man eleven years her junior. The victim, identified as Amrit Ravinder Kaur, was in a relationship with Shoaib Shaikh, a man whose life had taken very different turns compared to hers.

Amy, as she was known, had achieved a significant position in her career, while Shoaib, a school dropout, worked in a garage. Despite their different backgrounds, they connected about four months ago, reportedly meeting on a dating app. Their relationship, however, took a dark turn due to Shoaib's suspicions. He believed that Amy was involved with someone else, a suspicion that unfortunately led to tragic consequences.

The fateful night that ended Amy's life was initially a celebration – it was her birthday. The couple checked into a lodge in Turbhi, Mumbai, to mark the occasion. But what started as a celebration turned into a nightmare. In the privacy of the lodge, Shoaib strangled Amy, ending her life in a sudden and brutal act of violence. The gravity of this act is chilling – a life cut short, a relationship ending in the most tragic way possible.

After committing the murder, Shoaib didn't stay at the crime scene. He left the lodge and went back to his home in the Saki Naka area of Mumbai. His departure from the lodge, leaving behind the lifeless body of his girlfriend, adds a layer of coldness to this already harrowing story. The Sakinaka police, acting on a tip-off, were able to apprehend Shoaib, who had left Amy's body in the hotel room.

Turbhe senior police inspector, Ravindra Daundkar, provided insights into the events of that fateful night.

According to Inspector Daundkar, both Shoaib Shaikh and Amrit Ravinder Kaur used their identity cards to book the room where the crime took place. This detail is not just a mere formality of hotel booking; it also signifies how routine and unsuspecting the evening began for the couple. Around midnight, lodge staff noticed Shaikh leaving the premises. At this point, nothing seemed amiss to the staff – a normal departure of a guest, as they might have thought.

“But they did not find anything suspicious about him,” the inspector added. This statement underscores the chilling normalcy of Shaikh's demeanor after committing such a heinous act. The true horror of the situation was discovered only later, when the police opened the room and found Kaur lying strangled. This discovery must have been a shocking and distressing moment for the lodge staff and the police, revealing the grim reality of what had occurred behind closed doors.

Adding to the narrative, it was around 2 o’clock at night when assistant inspector Valmiki Kore of the Saki Naka police received a tip about Shoaib Shaikh. This tip was the crucial lead that set the police on Shaikh's trail. When the police finally detained Shohab, the severity of the situation seemed to weigh on him. Under intense questioning, Shaikh broke down and confessed to the murder. This confession was a significant breakthrough in the case, shedding light on the events leading to Amy's tragic demise.

The police sources revealed that Amy met Shohab after leaving her office on Monday. The couple then went to Navi Mumbai to celebrate his birthday. After the celebration, they proceeded to a hotel in Navi Mumbai to spend the night together. It was Shoaib who booked the room using his ID card, checking in at 8:50 pm. However, his departure from the hotel at midnight did not raise any immediate suspicions among the hotel staff. It was only within hours of his departure, when the police arrived and directed the hotel staff to open the room, that the grim discovery of Amy's body was made.

After killing Amy, Shoaib didn't immediately flee the scene or go into hiding. Instead, he went to Amy's house in the Sakinaka area. This action might seem perplexing - going to the residence of the person he had just fatally harmed. It raises questions about his motives and state of mind following the murder.

According to police reports, Shoaib worked in a relative's garage. This detail about his occupation provides a glimpse into his regular life, starkly contrasting with the gravity of the crime he had just committed. Around 2 am, the Sakinaka police received critical information. They got a tip-off that Shoaib Shaikh was at his house and seemed to be up to some "mischief". The tip-off also suggested that he was preparing to leave Mumbai. This information was crucial as it hinted at Shoaib's possible attempt to escape, indicating a consciousness of guilt and a desire to evade capture.

Acting swiftly on this tip-off, the Sakinaka police detained Shoaib. When questioned by the police, Shoaib's defenses crumbled. He confessed to killing his girlfriend, a moment of admission that must have been both revealing and distressing for the investigating officers. Following Shoaib's confession, the Sakinaka police reached out to their counterparts at the Turbhe police station. This coordination between police stations was vital, as the hotel where Amy was murdered fell under the jurisdiction of the Turbhe police station.

Upon learning about the murder, officers from the Turbhe police station acted promptly. They reached the hotel at around 3:30 in the night, a few hours after the crime had been committed. There, in one of the rooms, they discovered Amy's body. This must have been a somber moment for the police, uncovering the tragic end of a life that had been cut short so violently.

Senior Inspector Gabji Chimte of Sakinaka Police Station shared further details about the aftermath of Amrit Ravinder Kaur's murder and the actions taken against the accused, Shoheb Shaikh.

Shoheb, who had been detained by the Sakinaka police after his confession, was handed over to the Turbhe police. This transfer was a procedural step, as the crime had occurred within the jurisdiction of the Turbhe police. Once in the hands of the Turbhe police, a case was registered against Shoheb under various sections, including the significant Section 302, which pertains to murder. This legal step marks the commencement of the formal judicial process against Shoheb, holding him accountable for his actions.

The police also provided more background about the victim, Amy. She lived with her mother in AMTGB town. It was revealed that Amy was divorced and had a daughter. However, in a poignant detail, it was noted that Amy's daughter lived with her ex-husband. This information paints a picture of Amy's life circumstances and the family she leaves behind, adding depth to the tragedy of her untimely death.

The relationship between Shoheb and Amrit Kaur had been relatively recent. They had known each other since September 2023, having met through social media. This modern way of connecting, which has become so common in today's world, highlights the way relationships are formed in contemporary society. However, in this case, what started as a connection through digital means led to a devastating real-world outcome.

Adding to the narrative, it was learned that Shohab hails from Uttar Pradesh. After the murder, he had plans to flee Mumbai, indicating a premeditated attempt to escape the consequences of his actions. However, the swift and effective response of the police thwarted his escape. They apprehended him before he could leave the city, ensuring that he faced the legal repercussions for his crime.

This case, with its tragic end and the subsequent legal proceedings, serves as a stark reminder of the complexities of human relationships and the unforeseen paths they can take. The story of Amrit Ravinder Kaur and Shoheb Shaikh is a somber tale of a relationship that ended in tragedy, leaving behind a grieving family and a series of unanswered questions about the nature of trust, betrayal, and the fragile nature of human connections.
