Hiranandani turns approver, confirms that Mahua Moitra gave him parliamentary login credentials, took luxury gifts for asking questions targeting Adani

In a striking revelation that has sent tremors through the political corridors, Darshan Hiranandani, the formidable CEO of the Hiranandani Group, has become the approver in the thickening plot of allegations against Trinamool MP, Mahua Moitra. The charges? A tantalizing exchange of luxury gifts and cash, allegedly in return for Moitra raising specific questions in the Parliament.

In an affidavit that bears his signature, Hiranandani confesses to footing the bill for a majority of the questions that Moitra posed in the Lok Sabha - not with mere monetary contributions but opulent gifts as well. But what's even more alarming is his admission that Moitra handed over her parliamentary login details to him. This allowed the businessman direct access to channel questions to the central government, ostensibly under the guise of Moitra.

It's not just about questions in the Parliament, but the underlying quid pro quo that threatens to expose the murkier underbelly of political dealings. The direction in which these revelations are headed is clear: a breach of trust, a compromise of parliamentary sanctity, and a blurring of ethical lines.

The plot thickens around TMC MP Mahua Moitra as Darshan Hiranandani, in his series of revelations, sheds light on the political motivations that might be driving the MP's actions. As per Hiranandani, the driving force behind Moitra's recent parliamentary questions and actions isn't just personal gain but a calculated strategy for national prominence.

Described as "over-ambitious" by Hiranandani, Moitra, it seems, was on a quest for rapid fame. With PM Narendra Modi maintaining a stellar reputation, direct allegations against him would have been unfruitful. So, based on suggestions from a close circle of advisors, Moitra allegedly found her way: target business tycoon Gautam Adani, a strategy perceived to indirectly malign the Prime Minister.

This revelation presents a multi-layered political chess game where pieces are being moved not just for personal gains but for larger political ambitions. The question remains - how will these revelations reshape the political landscape and Moitra's trajectory within it?

Mahua Moitra's Calculated Ambitions and Anti-India Stances

Statements from the Affidavit | “Mahua Moitra was very ambitious and wanted to quickly make a name for herself at the national level. She was advised by her friends and advisors that the shortest possible route to fame is by personally attacking Shri Narendra Modi, the honourable Prime Minister of India... As was her wont, she thought that the only way to attack Sh. Modi is by attacking Gautam Adani and his group... She was helped by the fact that the rise of Sh. Gautam Adani had created jealousy and detractors... So she expected support from these sections in her endeavour to malign and embarrass the Prime Minister by targeting Adani,” the affidavit read.

“She requested me to keep supporting her in her attacks on the Adani group and provided me with her Parliament login and password so that I could post the questions directly on her behalf when required... Certain information was shared with me, based on which I continued to draft and post questions using her Parliamentary login whenever needed,” Hiranandani said.

Analysis | The provided statements offer a concerning insight into the mindset and strategies of TMC MP Mahua Moitra. Fueled by political ambition, Moitra allegedly sought shortcuts to the national limelight, opting for a path that involved attacking an individual with an unblemished reputation - PM Narendra Modi.

Her decision to target Gautam Adani as a means to indirectly malign the PM shows a disturbing trend of placing personal ambition above the interests of the nation. Adani, being a significant contributor to India's economic progress, targeting him is not just an attack on an individual, but potentially detrimental to India's growth narrative.

Furthermore, the alleged sharing of her Parliamentary login credentials raises significant concerns about the sanctity of parliamentary processes. If true, it not only questions Moitra's ethics but also her commitment to the democratic values that the Parliament upholds.

Moitra's alleged actions depict a politician who, in her zeal to rise to prominence, might have compromised national interests. The question is, will the Indian public and her political peers see these revelations as a mere political feud or as a critical concern for the nation's democratic integrity?

Mahua Moitra was reportedly assisted by several notable individuals and media outlets in her quest to malign Prime Minister Narendra Modi using Gautam Adani as a lever. "The businessman went on to also provide the names of some veteran journalists, opposition leaders, and foreign media outlets who had helped her in her endeavour... the anti-Modi brigade of journalists like Sucheta Dalal, Shardul Shroff and Pallavi Shroff; Congress’ Rahul Gandhi and Shashi Tharoor; and foreign media outlets like The NewYork Times and BBC fed her with ‘unverified information’ which she, in turn, shared with Hiranandani who used the Rajya Sabha MP’s Parliamentary login to ask questions from the central government."

The reliance on 'unverified information' is particularly troubling. Such actions, if true, indicate a blatant disregard for the truth, potentially misleading the Indian public and Parliament. It not only undermines the credibility of the individuals and institutions involved but also jeopardizes the integrity of democratic processes.

In what can only be described as a deep-rooted international campaign, Mahua Moitra allegedly sought help from an extensive network to tarnish the reputation of Sh. Gautam Adani and, by extension, Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “Ms Moitra, in her endeavour, was getting help from other people like Sucheta Dalal, Shardul Shroff and Pallavi Shroff... She had interactions with many Congress leaders, including Sh. Rahul Gandhi, on matters relating to Adani companies. She also had frequent interactions with international journalists from the Financial Times, the New York Times, the BBC and also with several Indian publications. She also received unverified details from several sources, including some claiming to be former Adani group employees. Certain information was shared with me, based on which I continued to draft and post questions using her Parliamentary login whenever needed,” revealed the affidavit.

The depth and breadth of this alleged campaign against PM Modi and Gautam Adani are staggering. The intricate web of national and international collaborators suggests a highly coordinated effort, driven by more than just political rivalry.

It's alarming to see names such as Sucheta Dalal, Shardul Shroff, and Pallavi Shroff associated with this saga. Their alleged involvement raises serious questions about their motives and the integrity of their professional conduct. The claim that Moitra was in touch with international journalistic giants like the Financial Times, the New York Times, and the BBC adds another layer of intrigue to this already convoluted story.

The affidavit's assertion that Moitra received 'unverified details' from various sources, including purported ex-employees of the Adani group, points to a potential smear campaign built on shaky foundations. Relying on uncorroborated information to level accusations in Parliament is not just irresponsible but also undermines the sanctity of democratic institutions.

Shardul Shroff and Pallavi Shroff, prominent figures in the legal fraternity, don the roles of Executive Chairman and Managing Partner respectively at the renowned law firm, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co. On the other side of the spectrum, Sucheta Dalal stands as a beacon in financial journalism, having penned numerous articles critiquing the Adani Group.

Diving further into the quagmire, the businessman's affidavit shines a light on Mahua Moitra's rapport with influential opposition figures. Notable names like Rahul Gandhi, Shashi Tharoor, and Pinaki Mishra emerge, suggesting a deep-seated alliance. The businessman believed that Moitra's political clout could be leveraged to garner support from these opposition stalwarts. Motivated by this belief, he indulged her extravagant wishes, from showering her with luxurious gifts to covering travel expenses and even assisting in the refurbishment of her government-allocated bungalow in Delhi. Furthermore, he provided both secretarial and logistical aid during her domestic and international voyages.

Reflecting on the overwhelming pressure and the concessions he made, the businessman lamented, “Many a times I felt that she was taking undue advantage of me and pressurising me to do things I didn’t want to, but I had no choice, because of the aforementioned reasons.” This sentiment underscores the intricate web of power dynamics, political ambitions, and personal entanglements that characterise this unfolding saga.

A Tumultuous Turn in the Political Arena

In the heart of the nation's politics, a storm is brewing. Mahua Moitra, a Member of Parliament representing the Trinamool Congress (TMC), finds herself ensnared in a web of allegations. On the 15th of October, a startling claim emerged from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) camp. Nishikant Dubey, an MP from the party, leveled grave accusations against Moitra. He asserted that the TMC MP had accepted monetary incentives and luxury gifts from prominent businessman Darshan Hiranandani. The apparent quid pro quo? Posing specific queries in the Parliament on his behalf.

These serious allegations culminated in Dubey submitting a formal plea. Addressed to the Lok Sabha Speaker, Om Birla, the complaint called for an exhaustive investigation into Moitra's alleged misconduct. Further intensifying the matter, Dubey passionately pressed for her immediate suspension from the Parliament.

Amidst this political whirlwind, investigative platform OpIndia managed to procure a copy of the complaint lodged by Advocate Dehadrai. This document purportedly enumerates the lavish items Moitra supposedly received in return for her parliamentary services. The list, it is said, offers a detailed insight into the products in question, along with their associated costs. In this age of dynamic politics and swift digital media, such controversies remind us of the delicate balance between power, responsibility, and public accountability. It remains to be seen how this chapter will unfold, but one thing is certain - the political arena is set for some tumultuous times ahead.
