"चलो माफ किया": In a shocking incident captured on CCTV in Perambalur, Santosh brutally assaults his father Kulanthaivelu over a property dispute, resulting in severe injuries and ultimately leading to his tragic suicide just days after being hospitalized
PERAMBALUR: In a heartbreaking incident in Perambalur, local police have taken a man into custody following the release of CCTV footage that captured him assaulting his elderly father. The dispute, centered around property issues, took a tragic turn when the father succumbed to his injuries shortly after the attack.
"When you were in the womb he showed himself as a soul. He who twisted his mustache after you were born. The one who celebrated your birth. The one who enjoyed kicking you when you were a kid. Even if you are sleeping, he is the one who enjoys watching you without sleeping. He admired your beauty when you went to school. The one who admired you when you went to school in your uniform. The fate of the admirer -"
The incident has shocked the community, particularly because of the familial bond that should have protected the victim from harm. The local authorities moved quickly, and by Thursday, they had filed charges against the son, identified as K. Santhosh. The charges against him include Section 323 of the Indian Penal Code, which involves punishment for voluntarily causing hurt, Section 324 for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means, and Section 506(ii) for criminal intimidation.
Following his arrest, Santhosh was taken to court where he was formally charged and then remanded to judicial custody pending further investigation. This case highlights the tragic consequences of family disputes that escalate into violence, reminding the community of the critical importance of resolving conflicts peacefully and legally.
CCTV Footage Sparks Outrage and Investigation After Elderly Man’s Death
The local community has been stirred by a harrowing incident caught on CCTV and widely circulated on social media. The footage showed an elderly man, later identified as A. Kulanthaivelu, aged 60, collapsing with visible blood stains on his shirt.
This distressing scene was recorded on February 16 at Kulanthaivelu’s home in Kaikulathur, Perambalur. Police investigations revealed that he was severely beaten by his son, K. Santhosh, 40, during a dispute over property. The violence captured in the video has become a focal point of outrage and sorrow among viewers.
C. Shyamaladevi, the District Superintendent of Police in Perambalur, provided further details to The New Indian Express, stating, "Kulanthaivelu passed away on April 18. As of now, we haven't received any complaint from the family regarding K. Santhosh. We arrested him based on CCTV footage. We're probing any potential link between the assault and his death. Initial findings suggest a heart attack as the cause. Since no external injuries were found, the final chemical analysis will provide clarity."
The incident initially led Kulanthaivelu to file a complaint against his son. However, he later withdrew the complaint in writing, a decision that has raised questions within the community. The sub-inspector of Kaikulathur, who accepted the withdrawal letter, has since been transferred to the Armed Reserve. This action was taken by the police to ensure the integrity of the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the elderly man’s tragic death.
Another unsettling detail emerged from the police department, as an official revealed that the Sub-Inspector (SI), who accepted the withdrawal of a complaint regarding a severe family dispute, acted without consulting higher authorities. This oversight occurred even though the nature of the offense was both cognizable and non-bailable. The complaint had been initially filed by the deceased, A. Kulanthaivelu, indicating the gravity of the familial tensions.

Kulanthaivelu's Business and Family Background | The Tragic Incident Unfolding in Perambalur
A. Kulanthaivelu, the victim of this tragic incident, was a prominent businessman in the region. He owned a Maravalli tuber crushing sago plant located in the Charvai area near Thalaivasal in Salem district, a rice mill in Perambalur, and about 100 acres of agricultural plantation. His son, Santhosh, with whom he had the fatal altercation, resides with his wife in Athur, Salem district.
Santhosh, who is now widely known due to the viral video of him assaulting his father, has been managing the family’s business interests in Athur. Over the past five years, unbeknownst to his father, he accrued considerable debt due to business dealings. This financial strain led to difficulties in paying the workers at the mill, escalating tensions between him and his father, Kulanthaivelu.
Kulanthaivelu's personal life was intertwined with his business ventures. He was married to Hema, and the couple, who had an arranged marriage, had both a son and a daughter. The family dynamics, coupled with financial stresses and business responsibilities, unfortunately set the stage for the devastating conflict captured on CCTV. This incident not only ended in tragedy but also exposed deep-seated issues within the family structure, underscoring the complexities of familial and business relationships.
In Perambalur district, a severe family conflict escalated due to financial disputes and claims over property ownership. Santosh, already burdened with heavy debts, attempted to take control of the rice mill in Perambalur. However, an existing agreement complicates the situation. The agreement, a 50-50 share between Kulanthaivelu and Kulanthaivelu's wife's uncle Sundar, is recorded under Kulanthaivelu’s name. This agreement prevents Santosh from claiming sole ownership of the mill, intensifying the family strife.
Santosh's financial troubles had reached a critical point where he was unable to construct further due to the large sums he had borrowed. Desperate to find a solution, Santosh aimed to utilize the funds from his father's rice mill in Perambalur. This desire led to significant discord with his father, Kulanthaivelu, who Santosh felt was not supportive in resolving his financial issues.
The family's tensions culminated tragically on February 16, 2024, in Krishnapuram, Perambalur district. During a heated confrontation at their home, Santosh attacked his father, Kulanthaivelu, with a knife. The attack was violent and prolonged; Santosh struck his father repeatedly in the face with his hands, inflicting severe injuries. Amidst the chaos, Kulanthaivelu’s wife, Hema, along with other family members, attempted to intervene. Despite their efforts, the assault continued unabated, reflecting the depth of Santosh's anger and desperation.
This tragic incident has not only highlighted the severe impact of financial stress on familial relationships but also the dire consequences of unresolved disputes escalating to violence. The community and local authorities are now closely watching the outcome of this distressing situation, hoping for justice and reconciliation.
Tragic End to a Family Dispute in Perambalur
The conflict within the Kulanthaivelu family reached a devastating conclusion, marked by severe injury and tragic loss. Kulanthaivelu, after being violently attacked by his son, sustained multiple injuries and was urgently admitted to Tiruchi Apollo Hospital for medical care. Given the seriousness of his condition, the local police station was notified to allow for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Sub-Inspector Palanisamy initiated an inquiry, yet at that stage, no formal case was registered.
In an ironic twist, it was revealed that before this violent encounter, Santosh, Kulanthaivelu's son, had himself been treated at the same hospital, Tiruchi Apollo, for severe bodily injuries. The nature of his injuries and the reasons behind them have not been detailed, but they add a complex layer to the ongoing family strife.
The efforts to mend the fractured relationship between father and son were ongoing, yet the situation took a dire turn. Within just two days of completing his medical treatment, Kulanthaivelu tragically ended his life by consuming poison. This act of despair led to his body being transferred to Perambalur Hospital for a postmortem examination, as authorities sought to understand the full scope of this tragedy.
Despite the intense conflicts and the violent encounter, Kulanthaivelu had forgiven his son, who was caught on a brutal video attacking him over a property dispute. This gesture of forgiveness, however, was overshadowed by his ultimate act of despair. The revelation that Kulanthaivelu committed suicide without betraying his son has only recently come to light, adding a poignant and heartbreaking detail to the narrative of this family’s turmoil.
The community is now grappling with the implications of this tragic event, as it underscores the devastating impact of unresolved personal and financial conflicts within families.

Santosh has been formally charged and a case has been registered against him under three specific sections. Following these charges, he was taken into custody, reflecting the seriousness with which the authorities are treating this case.
Perambalur district SP, S.P. Siamaladevi, addressed the ongoing investigation, stating, "Initially, we are investigating this case appropriately without any bias.
