Emerging under the banner of project BHISHM - the Bharat Health Initiative for Sahyog Hita and Maitri, this venture goes beyond mere words. It represents India’s ambition and technical prowess, weaving together an intricate matrix of medical essentials. One might even be tempted to describe the Aarogya Maitri Cube as a beacon of hope packed into 72 cubes.
Imagine a scenario where disaster strikes and leaves scores injured. In the face of adversity, these cubes stand ready, designed to handle a plethora of severe injuries – from the harrowing pain of 40 bullet injuries, the intense urgency of 25 major bleeds, the excruciating agony of 25 significant burns to the life-threatening situation of about 10 head injuries. But that's not all. These cubes are also equipped to manage long limb fractures, severe spinal injuries, chest injuries, and spinal fractures.
But what truly sets the Aarogya Maitri Cube apart is its exhaustive list of medical facilities. An operation theatre echoing with the sounds of urgency, a mini-ICU standing as a silent witness to countless battles between life and death, state-of-the-art ventilators breathing life into patients, advanced blood test equipment ready to diagnose, and an X-ray machine scanning the very contours of human anatomy. If this isn’t enough, the cube also houses a cooking station ensuring that nourishment is never far away, provisions for food and water, shelter, a reliable power generator, and so much more.
Designed with unparalleled precision, the hospital can be packed into three frames, with each frame housing 12 mini-cubes. And in a nod to flexibility and scalability, the design thoughtfully allows the joining of two cages, which means the combined strength of 72 cubes can serve as a sanctuary for 200 survivors, providing vital medical services for a crucial 48-hour window.
In an era where uncertainties loom large, India's 'Aarogya Maitri Cube' stands as a towering beacon of hope, a testament to the nation's spirit of innovation and compassion. As the world watches, one can't help but swell with pride at India's commendable stride in blending technology with humanity, creating an emblem of resilience and readiness for the times to come.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Visionary Leadership: The Birth of Aarogya Maitri Cube
Every monumental innovation often stems from a visionary leader's unwavering commitment and drive. Such is the tale of the groundbreaking 'Aarogya Maitri Cube,' a brainchild of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement of Project Bhishma in February of the previous year. Subsequent to this dynamic initiative, the Ministry of Defence sprang into action, forming a dedicated task force to breathe life into PM Modi's visionary endeavor.
In a display of international solidarity and India's rising stature as a global leader, the Global South Summit in January witnessed PM Modi's landmark declaration. Under the 'Aarogya Maitri' project, he affirmed India's commitment to extend a helping hand by providing indispensable medical supplies to any developing nation grappling with the devastation of natural calamities or humanitarian crises.
This visionary project was showcased to the world at the MedTech Expo in Gandhinagar, Gujarat in August. Timed alongside the significant G20 Health Ministers’ Meeting, it was here that the Aarogya Maitri Cube was officially unveiled to officials from Myanmar in July, leaving a profound impact on the international audience.
In an exclusive revelation to News18, a government official intricately involved in the project shed light on PM Modi's hands-on approach. The Prime Minister, known for his holistic outlook, had personally shared insights and suggestions with top brass from the health and defence ministries. A testament to his unwavering belief in India's ancient wisdom, PM Modi's input led to the inclusion of a range of ayurvedic products in the Cube's extensive list.
Highlighting India's spirit of camaraderie, as a symbol of goodwill, two Aarogya Maitri Cubes have already been graciously donated to Myanmar. And in a continued gesture of friendship, another Cube is currently being prepared for donation to our neighbors in Sri Lanka.
The extensive sourcing for the Aarogya Maitri Cube is overseen by HLL Life Care, the government's nodal agency. Given the diverse range of products contained within the Cube, multiple manufacturers have collaboratively engaged in its production, echoing India's collaborative spirit.
As nations around the world bear witness to India's innovative prowess, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visionary leadership continues to pave the way, cementing the nation's position as a beacon of hope, resilience, and international collaboration.
The Guiding Vision: PM Modi's Clarion Call for Originality
February 2022 marked a pivotal moment for Indian innovation. It was when the central government, under the discerning leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, entrusted the defence ministry with a profound mission: craft something entirely "original". An edict that wasn't just a challenge, but a clarion call for Indian inventiveness to rise and shine.
During the MedTech exhibition at Mahatma Convention and Exhibition Centre in Gandhinagar, Air Vice Marshal Tanmoy Roy, the stalwart leader of the BHISHM task force, relayed this vision to News18. "Inspired by PM Modi, we were charged with the task to innovate something unprecedented and break away from the conventional," shared Roy.
Brainstorming the Blueprint: An Inside Peek | Air Vice Marshal Roy, backed by a formidable core team of six seasoned colleagues, found himself at the brainstorming helm. "Given my medical background, I have an intimate understanding of the critical needs on battlefronts, particularly in light of intensifying warfare and the escalating potency of explosives," Roy remarked.
Aware of the grim circumstances precipitated by conflicts or natural calamities, like inaccessible roads or devastating landslides, Roy's team embarked on an audacious endeavor. They envisioned a creation that would stand as a pillar of support for survivors during the agonizing wait for help. Roy's insights painted a vivid picture of such disaster zones. "In these turbulent areas, it's impractical to expect doctors on standby for every victim," he explained. Consequently, the cube kits were ingeniously designed for simplicity. A user-friendly tablet-based application included in the kit ensures that even non-medical personnel can deploy it with ease.
A Testament to Indian Manufacturing: Quality Meets Affordability | But perhaps the most commendable facet of this innovation lies in its affordability without compromising quality. Air Vice Marshal Roy unveiled a surprising revelation: the entire cost for manufacturing the full set of 72 cubes stands under a modest Rs 2.5 crore. "If it weren't a proud 'Made-in-India' product, we'd be staring at a price tag soaring up to a million dollars," Roy concluded with evident pride.
Indeed, the Aarogya Maitri Cube isn't just a testament to Indian innovation but also a glowing emblem of how vision, valor, and expertise can converge to craft wonders, reshaping the contours of emergency medical care globally.

Unpacking the Marvel of the Aarogya Maitri Cube: Inside India's Lifesaving Kits
Design Inspired by a Childhood Game | Drawing inspiration from the much-beloved Rubik’s Cube, each ingenious compartment of the Aarogya Maitri Cube has been thoughtfully designed to weigh under 20kg. This ensures that, even in the most dire of circumstances, a person could manually carry it up to a kilometre without undue strain. "The cumulative weight of each master cube, housing 36 individual cubes, doesn't exceed 750 kg," elaborated Air Vice Marshal Tanmoy Roy.
But the true marvel of this innovation unfolds when two master cubes come together. "Joining two such cubes miraculously transforms a rudimentary primary care setup into a mobile hospital, fortified with the capabilities to undertake life-saving surgeries," Roy highlighted with evident pride.
Swift and Efficient Setup | One of the standout features of this trailblazing invention is its remarkable efficiency. "Within an hour of its arrival at a calamity-stricken zone, the mobile hospital springs to life," explained Roy. And, impressively, "the operation theatre is up and running in a mere 10 minutes of positioning."
Given their lightweight and compact design, these cubes can be seamlessly transported using helicopters, or even dangled from advanced drones or quad-copters. Every cube is meticulously positioned within its cage, each primed to address a specific medical challenge.
Tailored Care with a Touch of Modernity | Aiding the setup and operation of all 72 cubes is an intuitive tablet-based application. Delving into the specifics, the 'anaesthesia kit' stands out with its state-of-the-art surgical apparatus. The operation theatre is adeptly equipped with a foldable table that can accommodate a surgical team of five. From ventilators and anaesthesia machines to a plethora of vital medical tools, the kit is geared up to facilitate between 10-15 surgeries daily, before needing replenishment.
The technological edge of the cube is evident, with every device being rechargeable, and power backed by a portable generator, which also includes a solar panel variant. In terms of medical equipment, the cube's arsenal boasts of portable ventilators, ultrasound machines, digital imaging radiography machines, defibrillators, top-tier OT lights, stretchers, avant-garde surgical tools, and even a portable laboratory.
Customizable to the Core | But the adaptability of the Aarogya Maitri Cube is perhaps its most commendable facet. "These cubes can be custom-fitted based on their intended use, whether they're being dispatched to natural disaster sites or war-affected regions," Roy elucidated.
He concluded on an anticipatory note, envisioning the cube's role across India's diverse topography, "From epidemic-stricken locales to high-altitude terrains and areas with daunting landscapes, the Aarogya Maitri Cube could usher in a transformative era in public health management."
This Made-in-India innovation isn't just a source of national pride but a beacon of hope and health, ready to shine across the globe.
